We’ve been expecting Apple to start their miniLED transition with the iPad Pro in March for some time, but now it seems that other sources think Apple will be launching an OLED version in the second half of 2021.

Either someone has their wires crossed here or maybe we’re just seeing the miniLED in the 12.9 and 11 might get OLED? But, why? I don’t hold much weight in this rumour but I also don’t see a massive need to move away from LCD in the iPad Pros anyway, the displays are pretty stunning as they are. I guess once you see it though you wouldn’t want to go back.

8GB or 16GB – Tested side by side and there’s no difference in many workloads, but in a few tasks it really does!

Max Tech tested side by side MacBook Pro with M1 in both configs and the differences were surprising in some areas. Cinebench and Geekbench showed barely any difference, a couple of points here and there, but some video exports made huge differences, showing a little of the difference that can be expected in the heaviest tasks. I’ll link up there to the full video, but for most users today, the 8GB should be fine, but 16 would be a great idea for the future.

And is there hope for eGPUs on Apple Silicon?

Mac4Ever has tested alongside AppleInsider the Razer Core X, Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box and Blackmagic eGPU. With the Blackmagic connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port with a Pro Display XDR, the eGPU enclosure was detected, functioned and video played normally on the Pro Display. With the others although the card was detected (including RX 590 Vega 64 and Radeon VII) the display connected via the cards were non-functional.

So, while they’re not working right now, it’s something that may well be enabled in future so don’t lose hope!
