Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro will be available to pre-order from January 19th 2024, and arrive with customers and in Apple Stores from February 2nd.

Unlike with previous product launches, Apple has elected to announce this with a simple Newsroom post, and the way I found out about it was a 55 second old post from Tim Cook over on X. Not even a new video or Ad on Apple’s YouTube channel, although I’d expect that Apple will start adding in some pre-roll ads on the platform very soon.

The launch falls just a day after Apple’s recently announced earnings call on Feb 1st 2024, and will surely be a large topic of conversation, touching on the overwhelming demand during the pre-orders and of course the good reviews from pre-release units.

Apple Vision Pro will reportedly launch with over one million apps in the VisionOS App Store on day one, though how many of those will be optimised for the platform vs how many are simply ported iPad apps is unclear.

“The era of spatial computing has arrived,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create, and explore.”

The spacial computing platform that Vision Pro brings focuses on augmented reality over full immersion like many other platforms, favouring bringing the content into your environment.

Apple Vision Pro brings a new dimension to powerful, personal computing by changing the way users interact with their apps. The three-dimensional interface frees apps from the boundaries of a display so they can appear side by side at any scale, providing the ultimate workspace and creating an infinite canvas for multitasking and collaborating.
