We’ve been talking about it forever it seems, during the Pandemic, we heard that Apple was returning to the American Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas for the first time in a decade, 10 years after introducing Final Cut Pro X and we were all sure there was a huge overhaul coming, most likely including the jump to the iPad. And now, all of a sudden, with no warning, Apple drops it on us on a random Tuesday. iPads with M1 or M2 chips will be able to run what seems like a pretty full version of Final Cut Pro, even adding new stuff which we’ll come to shortly, and Logic Pro is also coming, for anything with an A12 Bionic or newer.

And what will these cost? £4.99 a month each, as a subscription. When I suggested this moving to a subscription model in the past, everyone lost their minds, “WE WAANT TO BUY OUR SOFTWARE!” but £4.99 a month? Or better, £49.99 a year, which means it’s cheaper than buying Final Cut on the Mac until you’ve been using it for a full 6 years. I’m gonna say it, this will blow up the user base. Being able to try it for a month for 5 bucks? bargain. Young people, students who don’t have 300 to throw at it in one go? Amazing. And I’d be very surprised if this pricing option doesn’t get offered on the Mac too – maybe even paying it will get you access on both platforms? Who knows.

In terms of new stuff, there are new titles, new audio, new camera features that let you shoot pro-res video directly into your timeline, text-animation that you can write directly onto your video with Apple Pencil. What did I say before? That if you add a subscription element, Apple has a great incentive to keep making the software better and add new features to keep people on the platform and paying their money. And if Apple does that, then it’s an even better value.

So I for one am very happy about this. And I don’t know how on earth it would work, but we’ve also been hearing that Apple’s Reality headset will run almost all iPad apps, so are we going to be editing videos in AR after WWDC? And if Apple’s enormous software event in just a month didn’t have space to talk about the biggest software release they’ve done in years, how packed must this event be?

If you’re excited for WWDC too, smash the subscribe button now, and we’ll get into your questions from the comments now.

Will the Mac Pro would be revealed at WWDC or an event in the Fall of this year? I’d like to put my Vegas chips on WWDC, but could loose my money at the crab table #iCaveAnswers

With the 3 nanometer chips is getting delayed with TSMC? Also, does it spell doom and gloom for Apple not getting the A17 and M3 chips with 3 nanometers out the door quick enough? #iCaveAnswers

#icaveanswers what’s the latest on WatchOS 10? Also, do you think Apple will skip the Series 9 name and call it the Series X?

#icaveanswers handheld gaming portables seem on the verge of mainstream success. Will Apple ever release a dedicated gaming handheld; if so, will it allow the Steam and Epic stores?
