Apple Store

According to an internal memo Apple are likely to release some type of new hardware on December 8th. This is based on information released to Apple Service providers and lines up with similar releases in the recent past.

Set for 05:30am Pacific time it’s though to possibly include new product SKUs, New or updated product descriptions or new and updated pricing. While it seems unlikely that without a full event we’d see something entirely new like AirTags, it could be something like updated AirPods, Apple TV (though I doubt we’ll have an update before next year), or, heaven forbid, some kind of intel Mac that Apple is happy to just quietly release.

Of course, Apple could just be trying something different here and releasing more major product with a digital event but without giving so much notice, just to see how it goes with a different announcement style.

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon – Benchmarks.

This week Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 888 – Snapdragon is arguably the gold standard for Android devices, so lets see how it stacks up to A14 in the latest Apple devices, and anything else similar. The 888 talks about big numbers, its got 8 cores, 25% faster CPU and 35% faster GPU than the last generation and while we won’t dive too deep here as the SOCs are very similar in some ways while other features could be totally different. So the Snapdragon 888 scores single core of 1135 and multicore of 3681, which puts it right around the A12 from 2018 on single core, but multicore is between A13 and A14.

The cores are distributed as 1x 680 Prime, 3x Kryo 680 Performance and 4x Kryo 680 Efficiency, vs the A14’s 6 core design with 4x IceStorm Efficiency and 2x Firestorm Performance cores, but still beating the Snapdragon on both counts. So it sounds like a great chip, and it will be interesting to see what Android manufacturers do with it going forward. But it looks like Apple is still on top just for now.

When will Apple Silicon overtake Dedicated Gaming PCs?
